How to determine the picker and the partner

The first phase of the game is called bidding or picking. The player who has the Q (the highest trump card) must announce it by saying "I have the Queen of clubs" or "I have the Sheepshead". This player is called the picker and has the option to pick up the blind or pass. If the picker picks up the blind, he or she adds the eight cards from the blind to his or her hand and then discards any eight cards face down. The discarded cards are out of play and do not count for scoring. The picker then becomes the leader of a two-player team against the other three players, who form a three-player team.
